  • Can you please help with information about going to the inner Himachal, like Kalpa, Sarahan etc.?
  • The best time to visit and how to approach the (self) drive (with wife and a child).
  • Is it a day journey or should I take a break, place to stay and visit around?
  • In the case I need to make a stop-over, can you suggest how to plan the drive, along with stop over place/hotel?
  • A good homestay to stay within Kalpa, Sarahan, within a budget of Rs. 2500/day
  • Must visit places to visit around these areas

Are you planning to visit Sarahan, Kalpa and Sangla together or planning to do that on different trips?

For how many hours a day you're ok with driving eg. 8. 12, 14?

Hey Yogesh,

More details as you need:
  • Total days at hand 5-6 days
  • I am happy to drive 10-12 hours in a day, a little less on the mountains, though.
  • Visiting together, I would prefer to base at one place and explore the near-by areas thoroughly rather than spend times driving around point A to B to C.
I hope this information will help. Also, I would like to plan this within September, is that a good time to visit?

Thanks.

In that case, you can do something like this:

Day 1: Delhi to Narkanda (HPTDC Hatu is a good bet.)

Day 2: Narkanda to Sarahan (HPTDC Srikhand, right in down and decent option.)

Day 3: Sarahan to Kalpa, en route you can visit Sangla and Chiktul.

Day 4: Kalpa, rest and sightseeing day.

Day 5: Kalpa to Narkanda or Theog.

Day 6: Back to Delhi.

September would be a good bet, with mostly clear views and good weather.

For hotel in Sangla, @rameshtahlan would be a better source of info.

If you're looking for home stays, they too can be found. However, with a kid, a hotel would be a more comfortable option.

Thanks, Yogesh. Can you share details of any specific places to visit/activity to indulge in around Kalpa, Sangla, and Chitkul?

Kamru Fort and Beri Nag Temple in case of Sangla.

Chitkul's main claim to fame is that it is one of the last villages before Indo-Tibet border.

In case of Kalpa, you can visit the Sapni Fort, Suicide Point and Roghi Village.

Hey @Yogesh Sarkar, how good are the HPTDC hotels in Kalpa. My previous experience with HPTDC has been pretty good. While traveling in HP I prefer HPTDC, can I assume the once at Kalpa would be good as well?
