My views on Tripura
Tripura is least explored state.Hence that is the beauty of it.
people are honest and helpful like any other NE states.Bengali is the main language there. But people used to speak and understand Hindi and English.Tripuris are ready to help you even they will come with you to drop you somewhere or show you few places.
The state is mainly surrounded by Bangladesh.
To enter Tripura
By road its a very hectic and never ending journey if you want to enter tripura from other parts of india.
Best you to enter is fly into Agartala. There are daily flights from various cities.
There is a meter gauge train to Agartala which is very very scenic.
If you are landing in Guwahati you have few options to come to Agartala.
Take a direct bis which will kill almost a day to reach Agartala.
Else come to Silchar which is the second largest town in Assam .From Silchar you have 3 options.
1. Take a shared taxi which is very uncomfortable.
2.Take a bus it will take almost 10 hrs to reach Agartala
3.Take the meter gauge train it will tke 12-13 hours.
If you are coming from Kolkata the best way to reach by road is get Bangladeshi visa and take a bus from Kolkata to Dhaka .It will drop you in Dhaka in the evening.Either take a bus directly to Agartala which will take 3-4 hours to reach Agartala.Else board a train from Dhaka to Akhaura which is the border town near Agartala.Take a tri cycle rickshaw and cross the border to enter Agartala.
Another option is the Helicopter services in NE region but i am not sure of the schedules.
Stay and Food
Agartala is a cheap city. You can find numbers of Hotels to stay.Ginger is the best hotel in the town though its not recommended for the budget traveler.
Food in Tripura is just out of this world.
Like bengalis they used to love fish and mutton a lot.Pork is highly demanded there.I tried Turtle meat which cme out to be mouth watering.Try the bengali sweets there.
Good hotel for food which i can recommend are Hotel Adarsha ,Hotel Shankar.
Though i could not find any bars but liquor is available every where.
Places to see
Ujjanta Palace, Agartala
Akhaura Border, Agartala
Neermahal Palace, Melagarh (50 km)
Maata Bari temple, Udaipur (60 km)
Bhubaneswari Temple, Udaipur (60 km)
Unakoti, Kailasahar (150 km) This you can cover while leaving from Agartala to Silchar.
Jampui Hills, North Tripura (200 km) Night stay is recommended.

Personally I feel 4 days in tripura you can cover these places easily.
Best way to explore the city is auto rickshaw and tri cycle rickshaw.I personally enjoyed a lot traveling this way.
Though i did not get a chance to try the tribal dishes i would recommend try those.
