Day 5: Ancient City of Ephesus:
Ephesus
is around 190 kilometers from Pamukkale. It took us around two and half hours to reach Pamukkale. We had lunch before visiting Ephesus. The overcast sky was clearing. This was the highlight of our trip. One of my friends who he visited before 2016 was not impressed with this ancient city. During that time restoration work in progress as it received the status of UNESCO heritage site.
Ephesus is not only Turkey’s most important ancient city but also best preserved and restored. Ephesus City dates back to 6000 BC. It has been an ancient city of Rome, Greece and Turks at different periods.
One of the most striking features of Ephesus is the intersection of all streets and streets at right angles. It was one of the most developed cities in the world at that period. The complex contains impressive Library of Celsus, Grand theatre, Temple of Hadrian, Temple of Artemis, Terrace Houses of Roman nobles and Cave of Seven Sleepers, parliament building, commercial baths, city gates, monuments, fountains, public toilets and even brothels.

House of Virgin Mary is a catholic shrine located on the top of the "Bulbul" mountain about 9 km from Ephesus. It has typical Roman architectural design made entirely made of stones. It was built in 4th century AD combining her house and grave. The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Emmerich (1774–1824) , a Roman Catholic nun and visionary. Historians, religious experts and catholic pilgrims believe that Saint John, Saint Paul and the Virgin Mary spent lived in the vicinity of Ephesus.
This place is not spectacular but it is a holy place for catholic pilgrims. No pictures are allowed in the inside of this shrine.

Day 5 (continued) Check In Hotel Marina Kusadasi
We headed to Kusadasi about twenty kilometers drive for overnight stay in Hotel Marina. We were in time to witness the sunset from our hotels’s balcony. The hotel was nice considering the bad reviews in Tripadvisor. we had ample time in hand hand before heading for Buffet dinner in our hotel. After dinner we took a walk across the street to a convenient store.

Day 6: Temple of Artemis; Drive to Çanakkale; Troy:
We stared early around 7:00 hours. We stopped at Temple of Artemis.
It is also known as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The great temple was built Around 550 BCE. It has been built in Ephesus on a flat area which has over the centuries turned into a swamp. Now you can only see the ruins; only one of 127 iconic columns stand tall. The most beautiful remains are today exhibited in the London British Museum.

Drive to Çanakkale:
It is a long drive of around 6-7hours covering 500 kilometers to Çanakkale. We did stop frequently for lunch and bathroom breaks. We did make a short visit to leather factory outlet. Few members of our group were on ramp show their products.
Our bus was not very comfortable as there was inadequate leg space for stretching. However the buses have Wifi to entertain yourself. Most of us were napping during the drive.

Day 5, Troy; Overnight stay Hotel Oytun:
We reached Çanakkale in the evening and made a visit to Troy.
Troy is an ancient city made famous in Homer’s epic poem, the Iliad which is believed to be located in Çanakkale. According to Iliad, this is where the legendary Trojan war took place. Replica of Trojan horse a 12-tonne fibre-glass horse, held together with bolts, ropes and nails was gifted by Warner Brothers; this replica was made for movie Troy starring Brad Pitt.
We checked in Hotel Oytun. It was one of the good hotels during our trip.
