TVS Motors launches seven products in one go

I guess this might be due to the fact that the carb version is relatively cheaper than the FI one and might sell more, while the FI bike gets brought by people who are interested in buying new tech stuff. After all with an FI system in place, it might just come close to the price of 180 or 200!

TVS might be in a big trouble now, it seems they have used twin spark plugs on their 125cc bike flame. Since Bajaj Auto holds the patent of implementing twin sparkplugs in small engines, they are planning to sue TVS!

As I write this... they have sued TVS. As a company I have no regards for TVS, they have only just started giving us VFM products and this is due to Bajaj else they were even worse compared to HH, giving us sub-standard products for prices higher than the competition. I havent forgotten the Fiero F2, with a four speed gearbox and a meek engine and it didnt even looked good.
I also remember the days when electric starter on a fiero costed 9k's over and above the kick start model.

Bajaj Auto to sue TVS

Country's second largest two- wheeler manufacturer, Bajaj Auto Ltd is planning to sue south Indian rival TVS Motor Co for 'infringing' upon intellectual property rights of its patented digital twin spark ignition (DTSi) technology.

Bajaj Auto's move to sue TVS comes two days after the Chennai-based company announced plans to roll out its latest 125 cc bike 'Flame' with Controlled Combustion Variable Timing Intelligent (CC-VTi) technology.

"This is a case of IPR infringement issue. Prima facie we have a strong case. While we have had Chinese companies infringing our patented technology, this is the first time a fellow Indian company is doing it to us," Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) CEO (Two-Wheelers) S Sridhar told.

Bad news for TVS, their profit for the last quarter was only 7 crores and if Bajaj is successful with the law suit or manages to get a stay on the production of the new bike, it would be a big blow to TVS.

As per TVS the twin plug mechanism is a work of prior art which means this is quiet old technology and its been in use since long. (Althought no one in India cared to use it)

Does not have details about when and where it was used first but for sure this battle have indeed started a new thred lets see what lies ahead for TVS.

It seems for many riding a bike with "just" 4 gears is a sin. Fiero's engine = meek. Thanks for the information.

Countering the charge, TVS Motor said in the statement that the patent that Bajaj claims is not for the use of twin spark plug technology per se, but for the use of the two spark plugs in a two-valve IC engine with a detachable fixed sleeve.

Twin plug is "not" a invention by BAL. DTSi tech is patented for "small" sized, twin valve engines. TVS has used it in a 3 valve engine, a 2 valve and a 3 valve engines are "not" same.

Not fiero's engine... but Fiero F2's engine, if you know what I mean.
No offences, not for TVS though.

Bajaj isnt claiming they "invented" the technology but they have a patent for using this technology in small capacity engines.
Tomorrow I'll copy a Merc Benz and change the grill... the patent was for a grill with 3 pointed start, our hasnt got it so not a voilation.

Use of twin plug in a cylinder is "not" a "new" invention which BAL has made.
BAL has applied/got patent for using two plugs in a single cylinder small capacity engine which uses two valves. Now if engine size can be a factor to differentiate engine design. Number of valves can surely be. Hence, TVS has used two plugs in a small capacity engine using three valves.

TVS does make better products but fails completely in the mktg dept. Bajaj is now having SERIOUS issues with Quality Control but they are still ahead as far as having a pulse on the market goes...

They might be making piss-poor bikes, buy they were the ones who caught the country's attention with "Humara Bajaj" and later on followed it up with Himesh Reshamiya! TVS makes better bikes no doubt: but they arent clued in to the market the way bajaj is!
