There are three routes to reach Umling La Pass.
1) Hanle - Ukdungle - Nurbula - Chisumle - Umling La = around 90 kms
2) Hanle - Nurbula - Chisumle - Umling La = 65 kms
3) Hanle - Pothila Pass- Chisumle - Umling La = around 105 kms

Locals know one more route also.

I took 65 km route of Hanle - Nurbula - Chisumle - Umling La.
But this route is not shown in google Maps.
I am a
level 9 Google Maps local Guide.
I have requested to add this route/ road in Google Maps :-

I was ready at 6 AM today as per plan. Mr Sarwandeep Singh ji (bird watcher & photographer was ready in his Toyota Crysta with his wife and driver and our Homestay owner was also with us along with breakfast and drinking water.
I just took a backpack and kept water bottle inside. You need to drink lots of water in high altitude areas.

The car was ahead of me. We took the off road as guided by Homestay owner.
I noticed that he was following on small wooden board with
ZRS. or ZSR
ZRS/ ZSR was short name of
ZURSAR, a border post beyond Nurbula top towards south east side.
This is one of such marking in those plain off road area.

After around 24 kms ride on huge plain area with lots of sand and loose soil, I reached the ascent of Nurbula Top.

The plain area is the route from which I came here.
It was a vast plain area with lots of mountains around.

First break was taken here at 7.10 AM. I had to remove my specs because due to excess cold , the moisture was forming on specs and in helmet visor also.

I reached Nurbula Top at 7.25 AM. Here there was no road. You just ride as you like.
IMG20220527072352.jpg

I could see a road ahead. It was a newly constructed tar road.
IMG20220527072354.jpg

The must be snowfall here before we reached.
IMG20220527073000.jpg

Now our intention was to reach that tar road. This road on the right goes to Zursar Border via Ukdungle.

I missed this board about Nurbula Top at 17328. This was perhaps on right side towards top of mountain.

(This is not my picture, pic credit google search)

The left side will go to Chisumle and it was downhill.

I crossed 4th mountain pass of this ride.... Nurbula Top @17328 feet. :supz:
Fresh snow everywhere here.
GOPR0591.JPG

After joining tar road, the ride till Chisumle was very smooth and fast. I reached the new bridge on right side. After crossing it I could see this board.
It was 7.55AM.
GOPR0592.JPG

"Welcome to World's Highest Motorable Road" . There is full tar road from Chisumle bridge towards Umling La Pass.

After riding for some time , at 8.20 AM , I could see this board.

Main reason for choosing this month of ride was to see snow on high passes. It was achieved well.
GOPR0602.JPG

It looked as if there will be more snow ahead.
