It's absolutely wonderful, no doubt about that. I have seen such landscapes in Spiti last year so probably I haven't missed this. But I expected to see similar to what Salil & Dixit did years ago in Different Spiti. That's what I miss and crave for every now and then. AFAIK, nobody managed to see something like that in 2015 winter. Waiting for Deepak and Ali gang to ride there next week and hoping that they will manage to reach Kaza and beyond.

Day -1 Faridabad to Rampur
Day -2 Rampur to Nako
Day -3 Nako to Sumdo to Recong Peo
Day -4 Peo to Dhari (A village in Shoghi)
Day -5 Dhari to Faridabad

Day -1 - 9th February, 2015 - Faridabad to Rampur - 500KMs

Started at 0745 HRS from Faridabad with no set target in mind. Just to reach someplace without much stress. Checked motorcycle papers in the morning and found the insurance copy was a year old and the print out for the new one was not available. Copied the soft copy in a pen drive and took a print out on the way at Pipli. Had a wonderful lunch of aloo paranthaa at Giani Da Dhaba, Dharampur. Started the journey ahead and was spotted by [MENTION=43541]Siddharth_mittal[/MENTION] at Kandghat which actually created some furore on BCMT Facebook page. But I carried on unaware…

Shimla as usual was lots of rush, took the back road through the tunnel which leads straight to Dhalli. ....

It is easier than winter Ladakh. And if people go for two seasons then staying options will also crop up. Plan....

All the best Sir ji..You have fully equipped vehicles for the territory. Juat carry diesel additives in case it gets very cold. Even mixing kerosene works fine IMHO...

I was following this one week sunny window in Spiti in February for more then a month and had decided to spend at least 12-15 days for the trip with altleast 3-4 days in Kaza. But some family commitments did not allow me to take out so many days, so the only option was to either let the sunny window go by and look for another one next winter, or go on a recce with whatever time I can take out – to be precise 5-6 days. And after experiencing five decades of life, was not sure what would be the status next year also, so I decided to go with whatever time in hand...

Temperatures were sub-zero beyond Khab. Even my handle camera shutters started sticking due to cold and needed a slap to open fully. The slap did work, but later I found some frozen material inside the camera which blocked the full image capture.

Icicles were forming everywhere on the bike. Even my shoes had ice on the soles and were slipping on the brake lever. The costly gloves that I bought failed, and the cheaper Chinese gloves worked better. My thick red jacket also failed with six layers of clothes inside, but surprisingly my riding jacket performed better in keeping out the cold. One thing that I realised is that trekking gear does not work while riding because while riding the winds hit you at higher velocities and the cold does transmit inside. Whatever you wear, something that stops air on top is a must.
