Uploading RAW files to Flickr

Flickr does not support upload of camera RAW file, or DNG file. If you want to use Flickr's 1 TB storage as a backup location to store your RAWs and JPG files, with a little hack, you can fool Flickr and easily upload your RAW files (in fact, any file you want). All you need is to use a valid image file (.jpg or .gif) that Flickr supports and embed the RAW file (or any file) in the image file. While uploading, Flickr will notice the image metadata and allow you to upload the RAW file.

Here's the process:
1. Copy the RAW file and its .jpg file in a folder.
2. Add the RAW file in a zip file. We'd need the zip file as a container of the RAW file.
3. Using MS-DOS copy command, embed the .zip file in .jpg file. Here's the command format: copy /B file_name.jpg+file_name.zip file_name.jpeg
4. Upload the destination file (.jpeg in my command) to Flickr.

To download the original file from Flickr:
1. Download the file in its original size.
2. Rename the downloaded .jpeg file to .zip.
3. Extract the RAW file from the zip file.

I've described the entire process in detail in this blog.

Feel fee to ask any question or drop your suggestions. I am not a software developer, but I'll try to answer your questions.

Ankur - I use Flickr account as a backup location of my pics. I attach the RAW file with the processed image and upload it to to Flickr so I don't need to worry if I lose pictures from my hard disk.

You can use "Flickr App" (android) for uploading pics from your mobile also.
Download Flickr App from Google Market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yahoo.mobile.client.android.flickr

On Android Mobile,
Flickr App's "Auto Sync" may not work.
When you have time,
Select pics and share via "Flickr" App.
It works.
