Using filters instead of a macro lens!!

Hello Fellow BCMtians!!

Yesterday while surfing Youtube.com, I cam across few videos which shows that instead of buying a Macro Lens one can do the same kind of photography using some close-up filters!!

Could you please help me choosing those filters for Nikon 18-55mm lens!! Also please advise if those would be good for beginning Macro Photography or they can spoil my images!! Currently I am not in a mood to invest in 35mm Lens which costs somewhere around 10k!!

Arpit,
Close-up filters are same as holding a magnifying glass in front of your lens but with a tread to the filter to attach to your lens.
Just like the magnifying power of the glass the filter also comes in different power. You can also stack them. Just remember the picture quality will not be as good as dedicated macro lens. Also you have to remove the filter to shoot normal photos. These filter are good to wet your feet in macro photography.

A dedicated macro is always good for that. Anyway you can start clicking with those filters and if you find pleasure doing so you can always get a decent macro lens later. But do not buy cheap ones. The raynox is good one .

Or Agfa close up filters . ( Do remember your lens thread size ) http://www.amazon.in/Agfa-4-Piece-Close-Up-Coated-Filter/dp/B006JOG3AC
Am using Agfa one and took some snaps

@Arpit Jain the raynox one is snap on type. push and set .
If you are interested in Agfa one then just look out for the thread size of your 18-55 mm lens and order for that one only.

I have used cheap filters from ebay in past, they work alright. Though please keep in mind that the image quality depends on the quality of filters you get and good quality filters are expensive. Filter size depends on the lens you're using. Filter thread size is mentioned in front of all the lenses in mm.

The ‘Close Up Filter’ is actually a supplementary lens.
If you want to do macro, you can also try extension tubes. They enable your existing lens to focus closer, thereby attaining a macro image. Because there are no glass elements, extension tubes will not degrade image quality. If you carefully choose one for your camera plus lens combo, you will also get the benefits of auto focus and exposure meter.
