Hi,

I am planning to visit Uttarakhand in second half of May. Here is my tentative plan. All the suggestions are more than welcome. I plan to finalize my bookings in the next week.

Pune - Delhi - Pune flight
Rent zoomcar
Delhi - Musssoorie (2 nights)
Mussoorie - Kosi camp (1 night) - I am looking for information on Kosi camps or some place on the way from
Kosi camp - Kausani ( 2nights)
Kausani - Almora (1 night)
Almora - Nainital (1 night)
Nainital - Delhi (1 night)

I will be travelling with family and driving alone, I would like to know the following:
1. Is this plan doable?
2. Is it too hectic or too relaxed?
3. How safe it is to drive on own in these parts of the world?
4. Any other suggestions?

Kosi camp - Kausani ( 2nights)
Kausani - Almora (1 night)
Almora - Nainital (1 night)
Nainital - Delhi (1 night)

I will be travelling with family and driving alone, I would like to know the following:
1. Is this plan doable?
It is doable,
but
Not a good idea.
First go towards Mussourie, then Kausani is time waste,
if your Icecream is not waiting at Mussourie only.
You can eat it in Kumaun also !
Are going to retire after this trip ?
Or
you will not like to see Himalyas in Uttarakhand again ?

Not hectic but time wasting of a day is the extra cost.
From Mussourie to Kausani !

3. How safe it is to drive on own in these parts of the world?
Absolutely safe.
Till you announce that you have a Gold Mine !
Drive only in day time.

4. Any other suggestions?
Better go to one side of Uttarakhand.
Kumaun Area or Mussourie side.

Check Kumaon side that has better connectivity & road infrastructure:

If you do not like Kumaun side,
go towards Mussourie and ahead.
Explore the area that is raw !
This side also has good places but these are unknown ones.
It takes more time to explore here.

Uttarakhand is a big area to explore.
You have to live here to explore it !

Thanks a lot Satinder for the detailed response, reason I picked this itinerary was because my wife is reading some book, which has lot of references around Mussoorie, I like to go to unexplored areas so I picked Kausani and Almora.

Plan one side only, if you want to explore untouched areas, Mussourie side is less explored.
Move towards Dhanaulti, Chamba, Harsil, Gangotri, or Chakrata, Deoban etc.
You will not be wasting your time.

Next time cover Kumaon Area.

Then in next trip try
Chotpa, Deoria Taal, Kartik Swami Temple, Mad Maheshwar Trek, Kedarnath trek etc is at different area towards north in middle of Uttarakhand.

You will now miss Auli, Valley of Flowers, Hemkunt Sahib, Badrinath ji, Mana, Malari area with many treks at top end of north east side of Uttarakhand.
