    Madurai-Chennai Parveen Merc Review
Completed a daytime trip in Parveen's Merc from Madurai after quite a long time. Since I was traveling with family, booked the first row (V1-V4). Boarding time at Mattuthavani was 13:50 but the bus was late by 5mts and left sharp at 14:05. Madurai Radha left sharp at 13:40 and SRM was waiting when we left. Took the ring road to join the bypass and driver was constantly maintaining 95-100 on the highway. Reached trichy at 15:35 where there was a bio-break at the toll. Entered trichy to pick up a few passengers and rejoined the highway at 16:15. Since it was a weekend, all the tolls were quite crowded with a lot of cars. Then the customary snack break at Hotel Annamalai Villupuram. The break lasted from 18:30 till 19:00. Second driver took the wheels from there and just as we entered Singaperumalkoil at 20:35, there was a huge traffic jam. Crawled till maraimalai nagar as was dropped at perungulathur at 21:35. Overall a comfortable journey, Merc had done around 7lakh kms. Both drivers were fast but not rash and the cleaner was quite friendly. The Merc is starting to show signs of age.

Journey to Madurai was by Madurai Radha's 21:30 non ac sleeper from egmore. Left at 21:45 and crossed perungulathur at 23:30 (bus was full by tambaram). From there maintained steady speed and the driver change happened after ulundurpet at 2am. Crossed trichy at 4am and was dropped in Madurai at 6:15am. Vivegam's B9R overtook us somewhere after Trichy. So a total time of 6hrs and 45mts from Perungulathur to Madurai which is quite decent for a AL Sleeper. The sleeper was quite new and well maintained.

Here we go ! MSRTC Maharashtra continues to induct new SCANIAs its fleet ! It would be such a sight to watch these Shivneri Scania beauties zipping on Pune-Mumbai Expressway alongside the Shivneri Volvos. 14 new Scania biaxle buses have arrived at Panvel-Bombay awaiting registration and many more are slated to come soon.

I am planning to take one of the Mangalore services in April or May, and this review helps in short-listing the service. Now I am inclined more towards the noon SRS travels or the KaSRTC service.

Pickup across the city is just a value-added service. So we can't blame the operators.

Just to limit the time wasted in getting moved from van pickup point to the bus boarding point, I normally opt for the last bus pick up point. This way I save time. For Kesineni, i opt for Gachibowli, for others I choose Mehdipatnam pillar pickups.

Your feedback on biobreak can be written to Kesineni customer care. They may instruct the drivers. At least, it used to happen in the past!

Any idea, what time the bus could have reached Mangalore?

The SRS noon service(1PM) in Mangalore-Hyderabad route is via Bangalore. It works Manipal-Mangalore-Bangalore-Hyderabad.

Interesting to see the new buses and glad to know that they are planning Indore-Goa route [again quite a long route] of 1010 km. This will act for all destination as split service:
    Goa-Pune/Shirdi
    Pune/Shirdi - Indore.

    Benhur,
If you need to have good timings [excluding city pick ups] Kaveri is providing good service. I am told driving is also smooth though I have not traveled in it.
In terms of comfort KSRTC is good.

Ultimately Scania is getting into Maharastra.
They should focus more on Good night service to Mumbai-Nagpur, Pune-Nagpur, Mumbai-Nagar-Aurangabad Mumbai-Kolhapur, Kolhapur-Shirdi, Shirdi-Indore.

I got down at Manipal at 8am. They only had one Udupi passenger who they dropped on the way to Manipal itself. So it would have reached mangalore by Max 9.30. When someone asked the attendant what time they'd reach Manipal, he said 7.30. So an estimate of 9-9.30 for mangalore.

Ksrtc reaches by 10-10.30. Ksrtc is very comfortable for sleeping.

Do not take a service that goes via bangalore. They waste so much time within the city. And the hubli Ankola ghats are better than the shiradi ghats.

[Here's one more thing I learnt from ksrtc drivers. Mangalore division has special services during April to June. So their long distance club classes go back to having two drivers and a conductor. Rest of the time, it's three drivers. With three drivers, they don't pay overtime. With two, they have to pay ot. So they use these drivers for special services. Hyderabad usually gets a regular Airavat.]
