9600 series launched with D8 (8 litre engine)!! Not 13 litre in 13.5 m bi-axle and 15 m tri axle configuration.

Volvo 9600 platform is powered by a Volvo D8K 8 liter engine offering 348.66 hp power at 2,200 rpm and 1,350 Nm torque at 1,200-1,600 rpm. This fuel efficient engine is designed to minimize TCO and maximize uptime thereby being highly cost efficient while the chassis includes an I-Shift automated manual gearbox with electronic braking and hill start assist.

From my memory:
B8R: 290 HP, 1200 N-m [Specifications ]
B9R: 360 HP; 1600 N-m
B11R: 380 [13.8m] or 410 HP [14.5 or 15 m]: 2000 N-m Torque. [Specifications ]
So Volvo seems to have re-worked the B9R engine to have have reduced bore / Torque and power closer to B9R engine.
Now when Ashok Leyland launches their 3 Axle / 15 m bus, need to see how the market responds.
