This would be my First Travelogue here so please bear with me if its a bit boring.

The itch to go to malvan started a few months back however couldn't find enough time to ride so far, finally come january 2017 a few events happen and the plan to Malvan takes shape. its republic day weekend and we plan for a ride and the plan fails, the plan is then postponed to Febuary Second week.

A few Teaser Shots. As its a ritual in BCMTouring so following it before the entire story is unfolded.

A brief into why was malvan Shortlisted for the ride, What was the importance of Malvan and a small intro about Malvanian fort ( SindhDurg Fort). I am Also a Foody and Malvanian Cuisine is just Yum specially the sol Kadi.

    Insight into Sindhdurg Fort History
: As most of you know that it was built by Chattrapati Shivaji, the construction was started in 1664 and it took 3 years to complete the fort, it was built under the supervision of Hiroji Indalkar whose name comes up in construction of various other forts. its said that a 3000 members crew finished the job in 3 years and as these men wanted to know they are secure an army of 5000 Soldiers were stationed for the protection of the construction workers as well as the fort in totality, at the time marathas were surrounded by Dutche, French and Portugese.

This fort is built over a area of 48 acres and boasts a 30 feet high wall and a massive thickness of 12 feet all the stones and cement ( A mixture of Jaggery lime stone and clay) were procured from the fort site itself. Given the massive construction its hard to believe that with modern technologies and machinery, we may not be able to finish such massive work now within a span of 3 years. However im not comparing nor saying that modern technology cannot but just appreciating the work that was done in that Era.

The entrance is slightly curved and narrowed, When Entering one wonders why such an entrance to such a magnificient fort. the answer is short and sweet " For Safety Reasons" previously to break the doors of the fort, it was either elephants or huge logs which were used to carry on the work. but with this curved entrance neither the elephants nor the logs could have been brought in to break open the doors.

also when we enter we see Holes on either sides of the door which were used to Spill Hot oil on the Enemy who is trying to enter in. Clever isnt it??. Well thats not the only place where we can see the Cleverness. On the Entrance is also a Small temple of Lord Hanuman, after the entrance there is also a temple of a godess called jhar mari is a godess of health outside which there is an inscription of the date it was built.

There are around 18 families who reside in the fort to date who are the 12th generation of the soldiers who used to take care of the fort. yes some have abondoned thier houses in search of employment those who remain there work as guides or own small shops inside the fort who sell tea Water and other eateries for the people who walk in.

Sindhdurg also is the only place where you can see a temple of shivaji which has been constructed by his son Rajaram Maharaj Which also Has a sword given to Shivaji by his father who was working for the Shahis of Bijapur at the time.

however there are various theories to where is the bhawani sword Now?? as one of the M.P's of maharastra claims he has one and London museum claims they have the sword which was gifted to them by the desendents of maratha's

once we are out of the temple of shivaji we visited the sweet water well which is constrcuted in such a way that the water is always cold.the well is covered with high rised walls so that no direct sunlight hits the mouth of the well which will prevent the water from evaporating. Even here its said to have clever way of protecting this potable water, its said that this well was guarded all round the clock as this was the only source of potable water. its said that the soldier protecting it would have to drink the water before it was drawn and used by anyone, which meant that he had to protect the water with all his might or else it was his fate that would end before anybody else.

on the walls of the fort there are no of watch towers so that the guards could observe every nook and corner of the fort.

Shivajis 2nd son Rajaram was married to Taradevi and there is a opening in the fort which has an access to private beach it is said that taradevi used this space as her private beach.

All in all we were taken to a differnt Era i so love the indian history it has a lot for us to learn from it. but couldnt say the same when i was a history student, those used to be books this is like reliving the era and getting to know how things were back then.

There is also a temple of Ma Bhavani who marathas believed in this temple has a well like structure in the middle its said this well had a under ground route which had another end opened in Ozhar near Malvan which was closed when British captured the fort. The british or the mughals have also destroyed the conference hall that shivaji to discuss warfare and welfare of the land.

while i was roaming inside the fort i had this sense of pride that we all belong to such great land were great heroes have born great are those mothers who have always filled the heart of thier kids with patriotism for their motherland. a salute to all the heroes of india. and the present heroes too who are our soldiers protecting a fortress called India.

with such a history we all wanted to feel the Era it was built in and hence malvan was shortlisted. so as i said earlier we started our ride at 04:00 hrs on 11/02/2017, we all assembled and rode towards Goa, it was around 7:30 Hrs when we reached Kamath Upachaar Ankola

    IMG-20170214-WA0027-2.jpg IMG-20170214-WA0028-2.jpg

After a Good Breakfast we were fast paced and we reached goa had our Bikes Filled, and set out to Malvan. the sun was going higher and it started getting hot and in coastal regions when its hot u sweat like a Dog and that was the case with us. we were riding fast and after we crossed Bambolim hospital there was a Round about and there was a bridge with fresh Tarmac laid , i dont know what i felt i took a turn thinking that this might be the new road to panjim city, the road was awesome our speeds increased from 80kmph to 100 kmph we all felt ecstatic on this road however when we came to know that we had taken the wrong road and we had to go back on the same road everyone felt a little sad as we already had lost time and detour means furthur time wasted, however after enquiring we found that there was a ferry route which led from marcel to bicholim, and from Bicholim to Goa Maharashtra highway and from there to malvan. though we all were sad we enjoyed the ferry ride and probably we lost an hour but not much of a fuss that was.

we waiting at the Ferry Pick up point.

We reached Bicholim and till now our GPS wasnt working and in the ferry we switched of our phones and restarted it and the GPS started working, may be it was the roaming that the phone was getting confused with. we were making up for the time we had lost and muching Kms after Kms now the time was 12:30 when we hit the border gates of Goa where we stopped to purchase our stocks for the evening. had all our quota picked and making our way into Maharastra there was sudden chnge in the scenery, no greenery around, all dried up land, Hot air and burning sunshine. we were getting dehydarted thats when we stopped for mouth watering Watermelons along the road side Malvan was just 30 kms from here. we reached malvan by 2:30 in the afternoon . the road from pinguli, Kudal to Malvan is not in good shape so people going there pls note this.

    to be continued......

so we reached Malvan and started searching for a room which my friends had suggested and we found the room however other people with me were not positive about the room and this was in Ozhar and a bit outside of malvan hence accoridng to thier request we searched for a room on the shores of malvan beach. We had a local help in this matter from a guy called Raj, wonderful guy he helped us from the Room, scuba, places to go everything he even offered to let us buy fish from the local market so that we can cook it ourselves. so nice of him, however when all this was done it was around 16:00 hrs and we were hungry as a hog

so finally we ask raj to let us know a good place to fill. He suggests a place called ONLY FISH. yes thats the name of the hotel and they serve only fish

we ordered for pompfret Thaali, My God!!! the taste was awesome, Simply the best. The pompfret was freid in a malvanian masala which u dont find anywhere, then there was dry prawns stir fry that was given as a accompaniment which was just mouth watering, The Sol Kadi along with the thali was a refresher. all in all we felt really good that we rode so far to have such a nice food.
A pic of the Thaali (image Courtesy google, we were too hungry to click a pic)

    Malwani-Kalwan-Fish-Thali.jpg

apparently we were shown a room which belonged to a guy called todankar who also owned one of the big scuba diving agency in malvan

we came back to our rooms changed and got back on the bikes as the owner of the property old us that we can ride along the beaches on our bikes, we just did that.

the cool evening Breeze, the setting Sun, fisherman trying for the catch of the day fading outlines of sindhdurg fort we all wanted to sit there and just soak in the beauty, we had camera but sometimes camera doesnt do justice to what you feel at that very moment, it becomes important to feel the moment than waste time in getting the perfect shot.

We got a call from Raj to check out the fish auction that goes on every evening, a portion of the catch is sold for the best bidder for that portion, it was nice to see the bargaining and communication skills of the fisherman.

it was 20:00 hrs and it was time for us to retire from the surroundings and sit together among our riders and have pure fun.

so we again rode back to our rooms along the beach, it was time to open our quotas that we had picked up from Goa.

light music, Moon light, cool breeze, sound of waves splashing, sight of small lights on boats which had gone fishing, it was just the place to be.

we couldnt have expected such a feel in crowded tourist beaches but Malvan just nailed it. we sat on the sand and the sand was so pleasant it was giving our butts a cold feeling which any rider would long after numerous hours on the saddle.

with this feeling of trance we retired into our beds.
