I have read that drinking lots of fluids, especially buttermilk, plain water is much helpful. than cutting out on huge no. of foods.
My husband has reduced 4 kgs in a month by cutting tea consumption and substituting it with buttermilk or water (this is what he decides according to his mood.
Yes as YS sir says if Maida is under control it also helps a lot.
It is said to improve weight loss target the 4 White's
namely
Oils and Ghees
Salt
Sugar
Flour (Maida in this case)
Milk
Cheese

I reach same conclusion in a different way. The most important thing to add in your diet is fiber. Fiber has two benefits. First it attaches itself around fats and restricts body from absorbing fat. Second, it moves food faster through the system. Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains. Non-vegeretian food does not have fiber and it will move slowly through digestive system and, in worse case, may cause constipation.

Processed foods (maida) have low fiber. Increasing fiber and Omega-3 (fish oil, green vegetables) improves your cardiac health as well.

Suger increases triglycerides. Triglycerides is energy in blood before it gets converted into fats (when unused). Triglycerides also increase thickness of blood increasing risk of blood clots and strokes. If your blood suger is high then it is likely your body may grow resistent to absorbing insulin and you may get Type II diabetes.

So, increase fiber because it is good for you both in terms of losing weight and cardiac health. Next, eat one clove of garlic in night as it is a blood thinner and is know to reduce triglycerides.

In my case, I found an accidental solution to weight loss: smartphone. All I do is play a youtube video (like awarapan (Awarapan Banjarapan - YouTube) or oh meri Chamak Challo(Chammak Challo 720p HD Full Video Song Upload By Hassan.mp4 - YouTube)) and put it on my treadmill and start running while watching the video. By the time I have watched two songs, I have already run for 10 minutes. In time, I will find others but these two are doing their job for now.

To deal with after effects of excercise, aches and pains; I use vitamin supplements, melatonin and detox footpads (Amazon.com: BodyRelief Foot Pads Package of 10 Patches: Health & Personal Care) for a great night sleep.

From my own experience a few adjustments to lifestyle can work wonders. Not more than an year ago I was staring at hitting century at about 97-98 Kgs and then decided that this is one department where I would not like any more appraisals :p :p ....
So, I started with cutting off sugar from my diet which is high in carbs and is ultimately converted to fats.

Also, I started taking regular walks for around 30 mins daily, no exceptions(Even when its terribly hot or bone chilling cold).

Next, I ditched the lift in office for good and started doing 8 floors up and down by foot.

Started to use the washroom that was on the farthest corner from my seat :)

On the food side , never actually went for dieting. Just changed the way I ate. Starting my day with a glass of cold milk followed with a break fast of some sort of salad consisting legumes which have good protein content and keep me fuller for a long time. So it would be rajma salad, chole salad, Moong daal salad, Black chana salad types for breakfast. The lunch consists of 2 chapatis + daal + veggies + curd. Evening snacks again consist of salad.
Dinner is again light with chapatis +veggies.

However changed my eating timings and got very good results. Made sure I have something to eat every 3 hours. So glass of milk at 7. Breakfast at around 9. Lunch at around 12.30, snack at around 3.30- 4 and dinner at around 6.30-7.

The result is that from 98 Kgs in March last year, now I stand at around 77-78 kgs.. Had to replace my wardrobe as the earlier clothes were just too lose. Moved to 36 waist section in trouser and jeans section from 42/42+ sections(if they existed at some places) :p....

I followed and still follow the same routine religiously. I have had my cheat days as well where I have gorged but the changed lifestyle has made sure I can afford those.
The only thing that remains is absurd tummy fat for which I am planning to get into some ab exercises to tone it.

Jogging/running is a bad idea for anyone not in shape, since it will likely do more harm than good (knees and heart), especially when one isn’t jogging/running on a treadmill or in a park (concrete jogging tracks are a bad idea as well).

Best option is to create a calorie deficit, one which isn’t significant enough to impact your body negatively (no hard factors, varies from person to person, since metabolic rate and level of activity differs). This can and should be done with the combination of reduced food intake and exercise. Of course one needs to make sure macro and micro nutrient needs are met as well and they include carbs as well.

At the end of day, goal needs to be to become fit, rather than a skinny person with little or no energy to do anything.

I am in love with running but I also ensure not to run on concrete road and always run in the ground

I personally feel not to reduce the food intake and rather burn the extra calories (by doing exercise either by running or by swimming or anything else).
Yup healthy diet shall add on it.
