What is that water body near Chandratal?

There was another thread of a gentleman who had stayed at the Chandratal camps for 3 days and explored the surroundings. It had even more details. Can't seem to find it now. But for all I know, this water body is the leftover of a retracted glacier (Samudri Tapu?) which essentially forms into an independent glacial lake in due course of time.
Agree with everything. Only thing I mentioned otherwise was that this Glacier is different & Samudra Tapu is different. Samudra Tapu is somewhat towards North, this one towards west.

That glacier in the background I believe is the topic of discussion which happens to be Samudri Tapu as well.

We do plan to be at Chandratal for two days, 20 & 21st of August and this one, if accessible is on our list of places to go :)

Come and be with us if you wish to.
Thanks Buddy. Appreciate it. Would love to. But maybe, just maybe i'll be in that region before those dates :D

No. Samudra Tapu is origin of Chandra River. Another stream joins Chandra down the line. This stream originates from another Glacier . It is this Glacier which is being discussed.

Refer this http://www.bcmtouring.com/forum/mountaineering-trekking-travelogues-f89/trekking-area-around-chandrataal-lake-spiti-t47033-3/#post710617. See point one, which also confirms.

Theoretically, yes, but apparently Google maps isn't aware of the same :p

And to think of it, the name Samudri Tapu (sea island) does make sense to the extent that there is something short of a water body around it

Saurabh As far as I remember I saw this place to my left when walking towards Chandratal. It seemed to be at a distance of 2-3 Km from Chandratal. It looked like a glacial melt to me.I have also taken pictures of that. Will post pictures of the same after reaching home.

Samundri Tapu is a glacier, the originator of Chandra river. The water body definitely points towards the glacier and might be a part of it. Tanveer did have a couple of shots of the glacier, check out his 2012 log. Smugmug is banned at my workplace :x

Also Tanveer wrote about how its accessibility. You basically have to rappel across the river. So yes, inaccessible until you find a bridge to cross over and walk all the way.
You are right. this is the Glacial lake. Not strictly a lake though.
