Abstract
Background:
Colon cancer (CC) is the third commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of mortality in the US when compared to India where prevalence is less. Possible reason could be the vegetarian diet comprising spices used in curry powders. Researchers believe that 70% of the cases are associated with diet. Spices have inherited a rich tradition for their flavor and medicinal properties. Researchers have been oriented towards spices present in food items for their antitumorigenic properties.

Objective:
We investigated the effects of sambar as a preventive measure for 1,2-dimethyl hydrazine (DMH)-induced CC in Wistar albino rats.
Materials and Methods:
The animals were divided into three groups (n = 6) namely control, DMH, and sambar. At the end of the experimental period, the animals were killed using anesthesia and the colons and livers were examined.

Results:
All the treatment groups exhibited a significant change in the number of aberrant crypt foci (ACF). Sambar group showed a significant change in the colonic GSH when compared to both normal and DMH groups. A significant reduction in the liver GSH was noted in the sambar group. Only sambar group showed a significant change in the liver catalase levels when compared to DMH. There was a significant reduction in the colonic nitrite in the sambar-treated group; 2.94 ± 0.29 when compared to DMH control at 8.09 ± 1.32. On the contrary, a significant rise in the liver nitrite levels was observed in the sambar-treated rats.

Conclusion:
Sambar may prevent the risk of CC when consumed in dietary proportions.

SUMMARY
Consumption of sambar significantly reduced aberrant crypt foci in DMH-induced colon cancer model
Sambar treatment prevented DMH-induced oxidative changes in the colonic tissue, indicating its antioxidant role
Sambar comprises a variety of spices that exhibited both pro- and antioxidant properties in different tissues, leading to its overall beneficial effect in this model.

Sambar is not spicy, doesn’t affect the intestine lining and stops the development of carcinogen.
Sambar, that most popular of south Indian curries, has been proved to prevent colon cancer and medical experts say that it is the mixture of spices in the sambar powder that contributes to its effectiveness.

Sambar, that most popular of south Indian curries, has been proved to prevent colon cancer and medical experts say that it is the mixture of spices in the sambar powder that contributes to its effectiveness.
Piping hot sambar is often suggested as a home remedy for various ailments by family elders and now we have a research by the Manipal University to validate the same. Sambar, that most popular of south Indian curries, has been proved to prevent colon cancer and medical experts say that it is the mixture of spices in the sambar powder that contributes to its effectiveness.
Sambar powder has anti-tumorigenic properties, that is, it counteracts the formation of tumours. Sambar powder consists of coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds, turmeric rhizomes, black pepper, curry leaves, cumin seeds and asafoetida. Dr S.V.S.S. Prasad, an oncologist, says that if properly made, sambar is a very nutritious dish. “The properties of the spices used helps bowel movement thereby reducing the risk of colon cancer. Sambar is not a spicy dish and therefore doesn’t affect the lining of the intestine and actually prevents development of dimethylhydrazine, which is a factor of colon cancer.”

Cancer Research Institute (CRI) of the Tata Memorial Institute, Mumbai, has conducted studies on the chemo-preventive action of agents from Indian foods such as turmeric. A senior researcher from the preventive oncology department says, “Instead of taking sambar as a whole, if we split it into components, we see the many benefits of all the ingredients that go into it. All the components facilitate good digestion which is crucial to prevent colon cancer.”
Instances of colon cancer are higher in north India. Medical experts claim that this is because of the prevalent diet, which consists of more wheat and that leads to constipation. The diet followed in South India, of rice and curry, supposedly helps in bowel movement. Dr T.P.S. Bhan-dari, an oncologist, says, “Seventy per cent of colon cancer cases are in north India. Tur-meric, which is an active ingredient in sambar powder, has anti-cancerous properties. It prevents the formation of free radicals which can be carcinogenic. South Indian curries and especially sambar, is cooked using primarily spices. In North India, we see more grilled food which has tar and free radicals due to the manner of its preparation.”
Sambar is prescribed by gastroenterologists not only for the spices but also for the vegetables added to it. Dr Vimalakar Reddy, gastroenterologist says, “Indian food is always rich in fibre. Sambar, especially, uses many vegetables like carrot, bitter gourd, ladies finger, drum stick, tomatoes and others, which have their own individual healthy properties, as do lentils that are also used in the preparation. The mix of spices and other ingredients leads to more fat absorption that increases motility and therefore can prevent colon cancer.” A diet high in fat and low in fibre often leads to colon cancer.
Ayesha Fatima, a nutritionist, says, “Although the study is very preliminary, the health aspects of sambar cannot be ignored which is why it is such a popular dish. Black turmeric and fenugreek that is added in sambar is said to reduce the risk of colon cancer. It prevents the effect on inflammatory mediators and prevents negative stress on colonic tissues.”

[...] According to government sources, around 200 daily flights are being cancelled by Jet. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said last week that Jet is flying with just 70 planes out of its 123 aircraft fleet size due to non-payment of dues by the airline to its lessors and lack of spares.

Jet Airways and Spicejet grounded their Boeing 737 MAX planes [since the Ethiopian Airways crash.]
Many airlines have not. I'm sure there is major concern about it among people with bookings, many will have gone to look online to find out which planes are involved in their booked flights.

India’s Jet Airways says it has grounded its five Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft after a crash in Ethiopia that killed all 157 people on board.

The airline said it is not flying any of the 737 Max planes in its fleet and is “in contact with the manufacturer.”

On Monday, India’s aviation watchdog said it ordered a safety assessment of the aircraft. It also issued safety instructions for flying Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft.
The directions call for the pilot-in-command to have at least 1,000 hours of flying experience and the co-pilot to have 500 hours on Boeing 737 NG type aircraft.

Indian airline SpiceJet also has Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, but it’s unclear if those planes are grounded. Calls and emails to the company were unanswered Tuesday.

Jio GigaFiber broadband rollout may start soon in India: Report

Updated Mar 13, 2019 | 06:45 IST | Rohan Jaitly

Jio GigaFiber broadband rollout is one of the most anticipated developments in the Indian broadband industry and now Reliance Jio has bought more stake in DEN Networks. Here's what this means.

Jio GigaFiber broadband rollout expected to begin soon

Jio GigaFiber broadband rollout is one of the most anticipated developments in the Indian broadband industry and while Jio GigaFiber is expected to offer some of the most affordable plans in the industry, Reliance Jio has already claimed a huge stake in companies such as DEN Networks and Hathway Cable & Datacom for achieving last mile connectivity.

Now, according to a report by TelecomTalk, Reliance Jio has bought more stake in DEN Networks in order to gain more control in the company. The report states that while Reliance Jio already had a 66.57 per cent stake in Den Networks, now, the company has bought 5.75 crores more shares in order to increase its stake to 78.62 per cent in the multi-system operator (MSO) Den Networks.

It should be noted that last year, Reliance Jio announced that the company has a 66 per cent stake in Den and 51.3 per cent stake in Hathway, which are two of the biggest local cable operators (LCOs) in India. For the unknown, Jio GigaFiber was in news for getting a flank from LCOs in India as they were afraid that Jio GigaFiber broadband services will make the competition even tougher and they won’t be able to compete in the FTTH. However, with this new partnership, Reliance Jio is expected to get a big boost in the rollout of Jio GigaFiber broadband services.

Reliance Jio GigaFiber expected broadband plan prices, release date, availability

When it comes to the expected Jio GigaFiber broadband plans and prices, Reliance Jio has already confirmed that all new Jio GigaFiber connections will come with the complementary Jio GigaFiber Preview offer under which users will get 100GB of monthly data at 100Mbps for the first three months. On the other hand, subscribers will need to pay a refundable deposit of Rs. 4,500 for getting a new connection while there will be no installation charges. The refundable deposit will be taken for the Jio GigaFiber and Jio GigaTV routers.

As for the Jio GigaFiber release data and availability, there has been no confirmation on when the FTTH broadband services will be launched in India, however, Reliance Jio has confirmed that the Jio GigaFiber broadband services will be rolled out to 1,100 Indian cities initially, based on the number of registration requests received from a particular city. This means that cities from which the company gets the most number of Jio GigaFiber registrations will get the services first.

Passenger safety remains top concern: aviation ministry

Move comes after number of countries grounded Boeing 737 MAX 8

J aviation watchdog DGCA has decided to immediately ground the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, days after an Ethiopian Airline crash killed 157 people, including four Indians. The planes will stay grounded till appropriate modifications and safety measures are undertaken to ensure their safe operations, the Civil Aviation Ministry announced on Tuesday evening.

"As always, passenger safety remains our top priority. We continue to consult closely with regulators around the world, airlines, and aircraft manufacturers to ensure passenger safety," Civil Aviation Ministry said on Twitter.

New Delhi's decision comes after a number of countries grounded the new model of the US aircraft manufacturer's best-selling 737.

Among Indian carriers, SpiceJet has 13 jets of the model 8 variant in its 75-strong fleet while Jet Airways has five such aircraft.

Following the DGCA's decision, both the airlines have have suspended the operation of their 737 MAX 8 jets.

"Safety and security of our passengers, crew and operations are of utmost importance to us," SpiceJet said. The airline, earlier on Tuesday, had defended the jets and called them "highly sophisticated".

Many countries, including South Korea, Singapore and China have grounded the jets following the second fatal accident of the aircraft in just five months. In October, a Lion Air plane crashed into the sea off the Indonesian capital of Jakarta 13 minutes after take-off, killing all 189 onboard.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation or DGCA had on Monday ordered additional maintenance checks for the planes but stopped short of ordering their grounding. It also directed Indian carriers to ensure that pilots have 1,000 hours and co-pilots 500 hours of flying experience on the 737 MAX 8.

SpiceJet said it had implemented the additional "precautionary measures" and was "actively engaged" with Boeing and the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

US regulators on Monday ordered Boeing to make urgent improvements to the best-selling jet involved in the fatal Ethiopia plane crash -- but ruled out grounding the fleet as investigators worked to piece together the aircraft's final moments while US carriers appear to maintain confidence in the manufacturer.
