The Miyar Valley Trek starts from Udaipur in Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh. The trail starts from the village of Shukto in the stunning Miyar Valley - the Yosemite of the Himalaya. The walk is mostly on easy flat trail through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the Central Himalaya. The valley hosts medicinal plants and herbs, wildlife like snow leopard and the Himalayan brown bear apart from countless migratory birds, sapphire and ruby encrusted rocks, and seven crystal green glacial lakes. We follow the Miyar River across vast pastures, wildflowered grassland and cold glacial streams till Kesar Yon Chhaap, an idyllic campsite near the snout of the 24 km long Miyar glacier, surrounded by hidden lakes.

KANG LA

Kang la (5450 meter) connects the Miyar valley of Lahaul with the Lugnak valley in Zanskar. . It is a 78 km long traverse and indeed a beautiful traverse. . One can reach the town of Udaipur (Himachal Pradesh) within 2 hr 30 min from the town of Keylong. The Miyar valley is a side valley and the frequency of buses into the valley is pretty low. However, there is indeed an evening bus from Udaipur to the last village of Khanjar (3500 m) in the Miyar valley. . There is NO Network in the valley and once can enter and experience camping in thus valley. There are beautiful campsites like Doksa (3700 m), Thanpattan (3800 m) where one can find stone huts made by shepherds. . It can be a nice 1-2 day easy excursion for beginners as the Kang la (5450 m) traverse is indeed little challenging. . The trail is nicely marked on OsmAnd (Open Street Maps) which is an amazing offline navigation application.
