Winter Ride To Spiti Valley On Activa-125

Hi Ishant. That is really courageous.
Can you post a brief on overall road condition between kalpa and kaza? Any info on diversions from main road would be more welcome. How much of snow?
Yours would be most recent reference as i plan to go early next week.
Definitely hooked to log for rest of your journey.....

After Tapri, 11 km aprrox roads are fine I think till Karcham...but as you close to Powari(Last fuel station, after this you will find in Kaza) roads condition deteriorate progressively....moorang-spello stretch is in very bad shape.....overall it will be around 35-40 kms road that's worst. Then you will find another stretch of bad roads after crossing Pooh, that will be short. And the final stretch of bad road will be before sumdo but it will be only for 2-5 kms. The worst of these all 3 is the first one spello one...

Also make sure you cross liti, chango and sumdo before 2:00 - 3:00 PM as after that it is their blasting time as road widening process in going on. Drive very cautiously as all these 3 sections are landslide prone..and there are multiple warnings of shooting stones in that area. STOP.LOOK.GO.

There are currently no diversions along this route....so that's not a problem. :)

Roads are mostly clear of snow...you will hardly find patches of snow while crossing malling...nako..only where there is mountain shade. You will only find proper snow on roads after Kaza...i.e. if you go towards Langza, Kibber etc. Can't say about weather conditions, if there is a recent snowfall..you will find it before. I'm just telling you what I witnessed.

Also my advice never drive in bad weather in these stretches i.e if its snowing or raining. One shooting stone hit my activa while I was riding in rain.

If you have any other questions..feel free to post here.:)

I went there in feb/march and we were behind schedule and did Tabo-tapri on 1st march.

we rode through snow storm at nako to Khab

and then all the way to tapri in rains and that too in dark and yes it was the worst stretch of this at that time due to slush on road from pooh to powari but we had no other choice. But still the road from wangtu to Akpa before powari has been rebuilt and maintained very well from the last time when i wan on that road in march 2016.
